One of my many pickups the last few months that I haven't had time to share here is something completely unusual for me. It is a gold coin from Celtic Gaul. Celtic Gaul, Aulerci Eburovices Circa 100 BC, Half Stater, 3.01g: Obv: Stylized head of Apollo left Rev: Stylized horse right, boar below. Delestree/Tache 2401. The Aulerci tribe lived just west of the Parissi tribe, living in modern day Paris. They were part of the confederation of tribe Julius Caesar defeated in conquering Gaul. For those who do not know, the Romans were "awaken" by the Gauls when they migrated across Europe, sacking Rome along the way. It was the first time Rome was sacked. Ever since then, the Romans always dreamed of taking their revenge, and it was Caesar who completed this. Sorry I haven't posted more, but have simply been very busy.
That is a very nice coin, medoraman. I love celtic coinage as well, specifically issues which are stuck by tribes along the Rhine. I seem to recall few Eburovice Staters have been found in the area around Treveri.
Nice!! ... congrat's on adding that very sweet golden Celtic winner, medoraman I have an example as well ... but it's merely a humble ol' Billon example (wanna see it anyway?) Celtic Tribes of Gaul, Coriosolite Class IIB, Billon Stater 80-50 BC
I too love the Celtic designed coins and am always on the lookout for additions to my collection. In fact, I have two in my sights right now. That is a lovely half stater @medoraman
