What happened? I will tell you, I had a "brain fart". I thought we had been on 1698. So I offer my deepest apology for my mistake. I will wait to post further 1697s until we are thru with 1698:D

On second thought my good Croatian friend, my lust got the better of me. While taking my Rottie for his 10K walk, I made up my mind to get that beautifull 1699 Dukat. Now I do have a 1699:joyful: Late Christmas present! artid5963_ngc6773591-005_obv_c.jpg

Here's one more coin for 1699. I thought it would be nice to add every now and then an artwork of the period, perhaps some music, in this case Baroque. These additions give the coin a degree of historical context. I'll try to do this on a consistent basis, but there may be times when, for whatever reason, I don't.

Forgive me a little indulgence. 1697 was one of the years of a great recoinage under Isaac Newton in GB. As a result a large proportion of older coinage was brought into the mint and melted down. (One dreads to think how many beautiful and rare coins were destroyed!) Because so many new coins had to be issued quickly, subsidiary mints were re-opened across the country.
I have sixpences for 1697 for most of these mints:
    No mintmark for London,
    B for Bristol,
    C for Chester
    E for Exeter
    y for York:
