One one good thing about being in California is the chance to find scarce s mint coins. My latest find is this 1868 s dime. Still has quite a bit of detail and the lite strike of the mint mark that this date is known for. IMG_5339.jpeg IMG_5340.jpeg

I hand the mint mark is more clear. One worn set of dies were used this year so some people think 260,000 minted is being generous

Does the find have a story (CRH, etc.)?

Unfortunately nothing exciting. Purchased at a g4 price

I am by no means a 'grader', but that looks to be a bit better than your typical G-4.

Looks like the rim got a little smashed.

I'd be damn proud to have it in my collection.

    Nice pickup.

For the low mintage that’s better than a nice find. I also think it’s better than a
    G-4 grade. Congratulations!

Compare and contrast with the 1916-D dime, at 264,000...

That is actually a tarnished spot not a rim ding. That was my first reaction when I saw it

Many seated dimes are tough, many of the s mints of the 1860’s, 1844,1846

Picked up an EF (my opinion) for the value of a G4??? Awsome!
