My Mom sent this picture to me last night of a penny she found in my Grandma's jewelry case. The date cannot be read and it certainly appears to be unique. I'm just curious if anyone has seen anything like this before?
    Thank you,
    Jason

An error is something that happens at the mint, and leaves the mint that way.
IDK what is going on with this coin, but it likely happened after leaving the mint.

Thank you, I haven't seen it in person and I know nothing about coins so I thought I'd ask the pros. I did think it was possibly post-mint damage but yeah, I have no clue what could cause that.

I'm thinking it was once part of a lucky holder.

I was thinking dryer coin. But I have no idea. Looks like there was some melt at the bottom on the obverse at 5,6,7 o'clock.
