Hey Everyone, I've held on to these 5, one oz. silver coins for over 25 years and have decided to sell them. I've looked up what I can and figure they're all about $30 each with one exception. One coin I can't find anywhere. It's a 1990 Silver Trade Unit with eagle and liberty head. Can you help me? Thank you. The coin in question is separate in its images. The rest are grouped. If I'm about to make a significant error please correct me.
Are you sure those are not brass Chinese counterfeits? I had a bunch in the late 90s that looked exactly like those, I am just glad they didnt cost me anything.
No, lol. I bought them in Alaska. They were all very silver at one point. The Alaskan coun came with the little sleeve and seal, though I supposed that's easy enough to copy as well. Why would anyone bother counterfieting a coin that's only worth $15 (back then).
All that said. They are not really coins.[oops did I say that outloud]. They are silver bullion, and there value it whatever the current price of silver is the day you sell them. It's at $15.95 at the moment. Your "trade unit" does not say United States of America on it.
Well one reads "Medallion on the plastic cover." That's better than Bullion, right? Lol. But seriously, I figured as much. They really aren't worth more than their metals value unless someone pays it...which is where I came up with the $30. I'll weigh them. Thanks for even taking the time to look.
As mentioned, not coins, but silver rounds (if they are in fact real silver). If they are indeed real silver and weigh out correctly, they're worth the going bullion rate per Troy ounce. The lettering and designs on these look kind of hinky to me, though. While there are plenty of real silver rounds with cartoonish workmanship, I get something of a "Made In China" vibe here. Which means they could just be silver plated copies of silver rounds. You ask why anyone would bother. Believe me, they do. They make copies of all kinds of stuff, some of it relatively inexpensive stuff. Again, check your weights carefully. I don't know if you've got some silver bullion there or not, but that's the best case scenario, and I don't see $30 apiece for any of this stuff at the present time, even if it is real silver. Sorry. But as you said, they're worth whatever somebody will pay you for them, so... there you go.
ive seen the prospector go for around 27 recently on ebay, the rest are very interesting silver rounds which you could probably get a few dollars over spot value on ebay.
Thank you! I did take them to a jeweler to have them weighed. They do check out. However the value of Silver is so low right now I see it as a time to buy, not sell. Who do you buy your silver from? Assuming the value of Silver tends to rise as the economy drops, it makes sense to buy silver during good times and sell it to buy stocks during the bad times. An I wrong? Thank you
I usually use silver.com or I sometimes go on ebay if I'm looking for a special round, but for just investment purposes silver.com doesn't charge very much over spot and if you google promo codes you can usually find free shipping or 10% off or something. Your definitely right now is the time to buy. I take an allotted amount and invest every month. The way the gold and silve trend if you look at past numbers and the economy among other things I think by July 2017 prices will double if not triple.
Yea I use them too, I've found some promos for them too. Their website is strangely almost exactly like Silver.com.
This is one of my favorite rounds because I stated with Kennedys and I've never seen one before has anyone seen this type or have any info on it?
