So I just created some "Galleries" here. But now I'm seeing there are "Showcases", too. And then there are "Albums". Help me sort out the differences between these various features? I'm feeling a bit bewildered. (But in a good way, since it's nice the site has so many features.)
I don't know what the differences are. I load my pictures to the Albums then copy the link and paste it into posts to share images of my coins. I've never played with the showcase...but I've thought about it before. Like I would do a showcase of my Murphy Dome tokens along with some images of the base...
Well, I've explained it before but I guess I will again. It's the result of mixing more than one type of forum software programs. In the old days, CT was based on a different forum software than it is today. And as usually happens, one software does not support any other software. In the old days all there was was albums. But when the switch was made to the new software, there was no such thing as albums. Instead there were the Gallery and Showcase options. So the task became how to combine thousands and thousands of member images that had been posted in the old album feature, and still provide a way for members to add their images in the new software. Short and sweet there wasn't any way to combine them. So Peter did the best he could to at least keep all the old pictures posted in albums by members over the course of many years. And he managed to keep the images for them. But sadly there was no way to preserve organizational features of the old software for the albums. About all that can be said is that he did the best he could with the tools he had.
OK. So "albums" = old. What about "galleries" versus "showcases"? I suppose I can look some more at them.
I think the names themselves kind of explain that. I think the software developers intended that the Gallery would be used for "coins" and the Showcase would be used for "exceptional coins" and/or presentations, displays. But CT plays no part in that, people mostly just post what they want to post where they want to post it. A secondary purpose for both sections was to provide our members with a place to host their coin pics, where the pics wouldn't go away due to circumstances beyond their owner's control. You've been around coin forums long enough Rob to remember - "the dreaded " Well, having the Gallery and the Showcase alleviates that because CT is the host instead of some 3rd entity.
Thanks. I'm starting to enjoy having my Box of 20 collection on the Gallery. But is it nice enough to be in the Showcase? Hmmmm... If The Great Oz Peter really exists, thank him for me, too. I love the site. (I did a get a rather robotic sounding birthday message from him yesterday, so maybe he really does exist, but is a cyborg? Or a brain in a jar of pinkish liquid, connected to a spaghetti-pile of wires? No matter. It works for me! Literally.)
