Lovely coin! Yeah, those Seleucids were all about keeping it in the family. Not only did Demetrius I marry his own sister, Laodike V, but his mom, Laodike IV, was the wife and sister of Antiochus, Seleucus IV Philopator, and Antiochus IV Epiphanes. Yep, she married three of her own brothers. It's a convoluted family tree. Here's his mother: Selucia in Pieria, 175-164 BC AE 3.33 gm; 15 mm Obv: Veiled bust of Laodike IV, r. Rev: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΝΤΙΟΧΟΥ (of King Antiochus), elephant head l.; prow. Refs: Ex-Houghton, plate coin of Coins of the Seleucid Empire; Forrer 183
Super TET with a wonderful write-up!!! I'm missing a big silver of Demetrius but have a few of the others...and love all of those huge hunks of silver. As I recall the gladiator fighting Maximus (Crowe) wore a mask and that's the only example I can think of....
Thanks for the additional comments! Now that I think about it, I do vaguely remember this. All of this talk about Gladiator makes me kind of want to watch it again lol.

I'm a little late to the party...but here's mine posted for probably the 11th time: @ValiantKnight where did you track down all those drawings? Great post and I like your new coin.
I remember this one. Definitely a great quality coin! As far as the drawings, Google Images Can't remember the exact websites they were on though.
CNG's photo is very accurate to the coin but here's my in-hand photos anyways: (click anywhere on the photo to enlarge) When I buy new batteries I will attempt to photograph it again.
