I don't hunt that often, but I did today, and managed to find an 1856 O dime. This was from a roll that came from a bank, and I just can't believe that it was still in circulation. It isn't in the best of shape, but it's the best coin roll coin I have found.
Yeah, I'd still get super excited to get that in a roll for face value, plug/hole/damage whatever. Congrats!
This is a coin that has, in all likelihood, been out of circulation since the 1890's or so. It is likely that it was recently placed back into circulation by a dealer or collector who felt it wasn't worth dealing with due to the hole and patchwork that's been done to it. Still, it is a great find and it isn't every day that you find a coin that's 160 years old from roll searching.
This dime has NOT been circulating for 160 years. It was very recently put into a roll of current dimes because it has no extra commercial value and it's not really a miraculous find. Probably dug out of a cache of coins in someone's drawer. It has no collector's value but does have silver value. Even at that it's not worth the $1.25 or so just to drive it to a dealer.
