Hey y'all. Just in case you didn't hear about it, a Pawn Shop owner with close connections to coins was recently robbed and maybe killed, I think Dec 19th. http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/201...n-robbery/amp/
Numismatic connections to the victims or no, I hope they nail this killer and put him where he belongs.
reminds me of my home town St. George, Utah. where my late coin dealer Jordan Allgood was shot and killed. really brings back bad and sad memories. he was the greatest guy ever too. I hope they catch those 2 robbers and lock them away forever.
Where I live, on the East Coast, the local pawn shop owner and one of his employees carry handguns. Signs outside his store require that sun glasses, hats and hoods be removed. My local coin shop will only admit with a buzzer lock system. he looks before unlocking the door. I have family out in the Bay Area and visit frequently. The good guys in the SF region do not seem to me to be as much into defending themselves and their stores as back East. It does not seem to matter whether or not you resist. You get shot anyway. Dark hooded sweatshirts? No wonder there's no further description.
I am not sure what the conceal and carry laws are in San Fran. But if it is much like the rest of the state they aren't allowed. I could be wrong, but I am sure that only the criminals are allowed to have guns.
Hmmm? Individuals can obtain a license to carry a concealed weapon in CA. Also there are 4 or 5 coin shops within a hundred miles of me (North LA County) where everyone in the shop is wearing a sidearm. I have never seen a gun on the local owner of the coin shop here but I have no doubt that there is one within easy reach and you have to be buzzed in for entrance. Hope they catch the B@$&#!DS and put them under the jail.
If a shop owner has no felonies and is inside the confines of his own shop he needs no special permit to wear, display or hide a loaded firearm in the premises. It's when he goes outside the doors where it can become a problem
Hope they catch the lowlives and they resist arrest , so the police can legally gun 'm down, a cheap and sure solution that they never harm another living soul.
True. However, he can obtain a license to carry a concealed weapon outside his shop. I go to the Long Beach Expo a few times a year and I know a few people who buy and or sell there that have a concealed carry license.
Bet they're all from out of state. It's practically impossible to get a CCW permit in CA unless one's life has been directly threatened.
We have a concealed handgun law in Louisiana. We also have a "shoot the burglar" law. We also have cops who might just say "Thank you, have a Happy New Year" if you plugged an armed robber. My best thoughts and prayers go out to this victim.
Texas has the Castle Doctrine. It basically terminates any right an armed intruder may have to continue living and breathing. Prayers for the victim and his family.
It's not that hard to get a concealed carry permit in Calif. Go to a police or sheriff station in one of the less populated counties, have a reasonable justification, prove state residency and gun class completion, and pass the background check. However, it may make more sense for a dealer to open carry. Robbers see it, and most will try somewhere else. Some of the dealers in the Sacramento area carry a gun. Some have doors where they have to buzz-in the customer. One has (or had, it's been a few years since I was there) an entry chamber where you have to be buzzed-in and -out. Sort of like a jail cell for an entry. Cal
Yep, that's right. Two of my close by local coin shops have guns close by, like right on their desks so the prospective robbers will know theirs gonna be a gun fight if they try robbery. I wanted to mention that my nephew heard about this robbery from a nearby coin shop cause all the coin guys were talking about it. He lives closer to Vallejo than I do. I'm in Sacramento, there I said it I meant it and I'm here here to represent it. A blast from the past. lol
In Maine you can carry a concealed firearm without a permit. Bad guys think twice before doing anything that might get them plugged. We also have one of the lowest per capita violent crime rates in the country.
I was a gun nut for many years before becoming a coin nut as well. All states have their own laws concerning the ownership and carrying of firearms. The left coast, particularly California, is generally much more restrictive about guns than are states further east. Probably we all know this already, and can at least agree that we all have a basic human right to defend ourselves with whatever force is needed to counter a threat. Too bad that shop owner was not armed and ready to win. Then we could be reading a happy story about a bad guy who got plugged.
Just playing devil's advocate here. Its a very sad situation but thinking like a detective I bet the LEO's are looking hard into the employee that was shot but lived as a possible inside job. Its a classic movie plot device. The inside guy has the guy he's in on it with graze him or shoot him in the leg or upper right chest or something to throw suspicion off of the inside man. I hope I'm wrong about this and in no way am I saying that's what happened but I'd bet my last dollar it's something being looked into.
Definitely movie like, but plausible, I know that I wouldn't trust anyone to shoot me, seems like a win, No win situation.
