Hi all, my devices of choice are the iPad and iPhone but when I'm using them I am unable to see the "roster" of new posts that is available on the right hand side of the laptop view. Is there a setting I'm missing on the smaller devices? I could go to New Posts but am lazy enough to enjoy them right there on the side. Steve
That should be part of optimizing the site for Mobile, reducing the page byte size and complexity. I haven't seen a "View Full Site" option.
I just hit the new posts button and see what's going on that way. I do prefer the list on the side, but I'm sort of glad that it's not on the mobile site because it's easier on my eyes.
Mobile phones and tablets, with their smaller screens, don't display complex websites well. Many sites create a whole "second" website with somewhat simpler construction to accommodate this. It recognizes you're on a smaller computer when you hit the site, and automatically feeds you the less-complex version. Many places have a link (Ebay comes to mine) usually at the bottom of the page where you can tell it to feed you the original, more complicated page anyways. Near as I can tell, CT doesn't have that.
@SuperDave, thanks for the clarification. I appreciate it (and understand it). My kids will appreciate it also as it's one less techno-question they won't have to answer for their Old Man!
I've never found the "New Posts" to actually be all the new posts. I've always been curious about that, as when I create a new post/thread it never shows up. I have to wait for a response in the Alerts or go to my profile activity.
That's because the new posts will show you the unread posts. Your new thread has been read (by you) and therefore, won't show up.
I don't think I'm following you. I don't see threads disappear from New Posts after I've read them. For example, I landed on this thread again because it showed up in New Posts, even though I'd visited previously. It showed with the title in bold because there were unread posts. After I visited it, then went back to the New Posts page, the thread was still there -- in the same spot, but no longer in bold, because I'd read everything in it. After I make this post, everyone else should see it in bold again, but I won't, because I've already seen (my own) post.
Are y sure you're looking at New Posts and not Recent Posts? They are different, and Recent Posts work the way you describe.
Many pages that use fluid design will not have a "see full site" button because there really isn't a full site. Instead the page styling instructions (css) tell the browser to display certain things only if the display page width is over some value. You can see this happen if you are viewing the site not maximized and and then use the right side edge to make it smaller. My personal site does this... contact information floats on the right side down to some width where it pops to the bottom.
Personally, I find it much easier, and quicker, to just use the Index Page - https://www.cointalk.com/forums/ - than it is using New Posts or Recent Posts. You merely click on the sections you want look at and then select only those threads you want to open. By doing that you never miss a post that you want to read - and you don't have to look at everything else.
