Sadly, some Ebay sellers just don't care. I'd bop him upside his head with a negative just for his attitude.

Yup. Sort of like my last experience -- seller listed six or eight gold coins, then sent empty envelopes to each buyer. Even though other buyers had already posted negatives and opened cases for receiving empty packages, they still made me jump through the "file a police report" hoop, and wait for the process to play out on its prescribed schedule.

That reminds me -- I really need to go back and update the thread where I posted that story...

Well I called PayPal and they froze the funds until they can prove it was delivered.

That makes me fee better that my $589.64 is being held.

    Hence "insurance should be mandatory"....

I think you failed to realize I was speaking from the seller's perspective. Common sense does dictate that Tee shouldn't have to politely request the seller provide tracking or insurance on a $600 eBay purchase, and for the very reasons you listed, right?

No, I got that. I just think the seller should be able to choose whether he or she needs protection from this kind of loss or not. Self-insurance should always be an option.

Gotcha, and that's certainly fair enough. In context though, I still think it perfectly reasonable, all things considered and at this point, for Tee to demand both tracking and insurance. If the seller had any intention of actually following through, honoring said request should be a given.

Insurance and priority mail was requested as to have it before Christmas.

He said since it sold for so much they'd cover the shipping.

Thank you. Regardless of your reason, it was a perfectly fair request IMO, especially after the delay and nonsense they've pulled (including that horrid response). Even if they hadn't said anything about covering the shipping, the right thing to do (assuming he's not just jerking you around), after said nonsense, would be to honor your request. All things considered, I personally think he should've found the time today to make a special trip to the post office, even if a shipping label had already been printed at home, take photos of the coin in the package (and after packaged) along with the receipt, and email them to you with a token yet still respectable partial refund as an apology for what has happened.

I don't care what one believes in or celebrates, by presenting themselves as a business (and selling on eBay, even just a little, certainly qualifies) they shoulder the extra responsibility to respect the fact the customer may have holiday plans for the purchased item. His excuse to you simply doesn't cut it IMO. That said, have you had any news?

I suggest before you make a decision as to when you open an eBay case, regardless of what believed uninformed have advised, you determine the number of PHYSICAL days that are allowed to prove the case, and the number of BUSINESS days eBay is allowed for initial and final discovery before eBay AUTOMATIC case closure. I believe you may find that an automatic case closure doesn't result in a favorable to buyer resolution.

Paypal gives you 180 days, don't they? Not saying you shouldn't have filed, just trying to jog my memory.

I think you have up to 180 days from the day of purchase to open a dispute.

I would give it a little time to see if it arrives.

If it does, no problems and never do business with the seller again.

If it doesn't arrive, proceed with a case.

I believe a hearing by Judge Greg Mathis or Judge Joe Brown would be enjoyable to watch, and worth the expense.
