I bought and paid for a $600 coin, it took them 5 days to say they shipped it and I sent a message asking for the tracking number and this is the response I got.

"Look il send u it tmoz, understand uve spent a lot of money on it but I'm busy with Christmas"

Would opening a PayPal dispute be over the top?

I'm pretty hot right now. They've had my money for 7 days now and asking for a tracking number appears to be too much of a hassle for them.

Have you ever ran a business, Tee? If so, I think you already know the very reasonable answer to your question.

Christmas can certainly be a very busy and hectic time for most anyone, but does that make it an excuse to throw business responsibilities and simple decency out the door?

So this was not an Ebay transaction? Just checking, because there are avenues to pursue with their policies.

Assuming not, I would look into Paypal's policies and see if there is any clause about time paid versus time sent. Sometimes simply threatening to open a complaint can help. In the end, they may only be guilty of poor customer service, which is bad enough.

In any case, going only by what you posted above, I personally would never do business with that vendor again. The holidays are a time when vendors should, if anything, be extra vigilante about shipping things on time.

Well the only thing that worries me if I asked it to be shipped priority mail with insurance and after it was marked shipped with no tracking I sent a message asking how it was shipped and if it was shipped with insurance and they said they didn't know their partner mailed it out.

No straight answers from the get go.

I understand it's Christmas, but if you're going to sell an item around Christmas you must realize you need to ship it in a timely manner as well.

I was assuming to have this by Christmas Day, but it appears that won't be the case.

I would be hot as well. It only takes a few seconds to send the tracking information.

    It was done thru eBay

I believe that you can register a complaint with Ebay about the transaction. I'm assuming that they will already receive negative feedback.

No. Any further opinion from me would be edited anyway, so I won't post it. :rage:

Negative for sure. No way they can change that. They've showed they don't care about selling standards and I'm guessing busy with Christmas means busy spending the money I sent them. I asked for the tracking number two days ago, then again today when I got no response and that was the reply I got.

I've cooled down a little bit since I first read it but it still is a thorn in my side.

Garlicus Debt is dumb, cash is king.

The language in the seller's response leads me to believe it is an individual, not a business. Either way, if you list an item for sale, a courteous response and a reasonable shipping time (within 2-3 days after an auction ends) is expected, no matter what else is going on, other than a serious family medical emergency.

I say, start the complaint process on the first expected delivery date generated in their ad.

I'm a bit confused by part of your first paragraph, but it seems you really are getting nothing more than the runaround here. If he admitted to not having shipped it, you've every right (all things considered) to demand they do so with at least tracking, but common sense dictates (especially if eBay) insurance on such an item should be mandatory.

I agree entirely, and the point was, as the above suggests, you know the seller is doing you wrong. If you've the "Christmas spirit" and want to be a nice guy, give him until tomorrow to follow through with his word, but if not, I don't see how or where you could be in the wrong with filing a dispute. Even though filing one should be the last resort, I think you've done everything that could reasonably be expected, and that the seller is simply taking advantage of your kindness. Business is business, be it Christmas or the blah days of February, so if one wants to run a business (which eBay is as its a retail environment), they must be ready to shoulder their responsibilities.

I agree they come off as just an individual, but if one chooses to sell on eBay, and therefore compete in a retail environment against actual businesses, for all sense and purposes they are a business and rightfully should be held to the same standards.

Even if an individual, you would think they would at least extend you the courtesy of replying in standard English.

I would open a paypal dispute, first because they said they shipped it and then admitted it hadn't been shipped yet when asked, and because they said "tmoz", but, then again, i'm kind of an @--hole, so take that for what it's worth.

Really? You got this reply, in those words and spelling? Do you buy stuff from 14-year-old kids very often? Geez!:eek:

Seriously, though, I'm a forgiving soul and try to be patient. I normally wouldn't be sweating bullets after a week, though I might have done what you did and sent a polite inquiry.

And if I got that kind of response, I'd be pretty hot, too.

Given the circumstances, I think you'd be within reason to open a PayPal dispute.

I'm catching a strong whiff "loser aroma", here.

    Good luck!

If the seller can't send a respectful response in proper English to your reasonable question then I think you should absolutely open up a Paypal dispute as well as contact EBay to see if there is any recourse on that end.

Also send them a copy of the response you got! That's pretty scary that you just sent $600 and your trust to someone who would conduct their business like that.

That's a terrible answer for a terrible seller. The reality is the second he took your $500 he should have made shipping your coin a priority over any other holiday obligations. Not to mention that he could easily pay, print and get you a shipping number all online. It's just bad business and I'd be hot as well.

I've had a few sellers take way too long to ship an expensive coin. Usually after I message them they apologize and correct it. Never had a response like that. I would give him a few more days, and at the very least hit him hard on DSRs. Possibly worth a neutral or negative depending on how much longer it takes, though now he probably won't ship until after Christmas.

This is one reason why I only pay with a credit card. (Discover) No matter what happens, you will never lose your $ if there is a problem.
