Carter dollar?

    R.I.P. James Earl Carter, 39th president, 1924-2024.

I think it's pretty likely since they extended the presidential dollar series to honor George H. W. Bush in 2020, they'd probably do the same for Carter eventually. Since they like to stick to the "dead for at least 2 years" rule it probably won't be until at least 2026, maybe early 2027. For Bush they did have to pass a separate piece of legislation to authorize it, but I imagine the same would probably be done for Carter.

Would finally fill that space in the album between Ford and Reagan that's been bothering me for years, plus I don't think there's anything controversial in saying if they honor any presidents, they should honor all of them.

    Anyway just my thoughts.

I suspect they'll pass a bill to get the coin minted.

Although unfilled holes in albums are usually annoying, the holes in my Presidential Dollar Dansco are not.

I didn't mean it in a morbid way like I was wishing for former presidents to die so I can fill the spaces in my album. I just meant I'm an OCD completist and I like finishing things and a gap means it's not finished.

With the Bush dollar I think the precedent was set that the presidential dollar series may likely never actually end as more presidents are eventually honored. I hope so, not just for sake of completion but because of the history it preserves.

I bought a roll of each Presidential dollar from the mint with each release. That was enough for each of my grandchildren to keep their sets up. In 2011 I stopped when the mint decided to take the small lots off the market and let the major dealers handle the market. That turned me off to the Presidential Dollars and hastened my drive to completely removed the US Mint from my list of suppliers.

Once a bill is introduced, passed and signed the coin will follow shortly.

Once the Carter dollar comes into existence I will get the P and D. I'm OCD that way. Gotta keep up on my sets.

Did get that nickname since it came out when Carter was president, though to be fair the earliest proposals that eventually led to it started when Ford was still president. Interestingly enough it was originally going to have a depiction of Liberty rather than Susan B. Anthony.

Would have loved that one. Still the SBA has my favorite reverses of anything the Mint has done in the last 50 years on a circulating coin (though it was just the same one as on the Eisenhower dollar).

Wonder if proofs will be made. The Bush dollar, probably because it wasn't minted until late 2020, never got any proofs, though it did have reverse proofs minted in San Francisco that were only distributed in the Bush "Coin and Chronicles" sets.

Thinking about future Presidential dollars (NO politics please), Trump will wind up getting two coins.

They did set the precedent by giving Grover Cleveland 2 different coins for his two non-consecutive terms (1885-1889 and 1893-1897) so they should do the same for Trump eventually (2017-2021 and presumably 2025-2029), yes. They also used slightly different portraits for Cleveland's 2 terms so I imagine they would do the same for Trump.

Historically and traditionally Grover Cleveland has been called the 22nd and 24th president, just as they'll call Trump the 45th and 47th (despite the fact only 45 different people have actually held the presidency so far).

I think Carter will be the last Presidential coin. I also think that Congress will make a commemorative coin with all the other Presidents after Clinton. They may include one in mint or proof sets but I doubt they’ll make a circulation coin for them like all the others.

The Presidential dollars haven't been for circulation since 2012.

I didn’t say unusual. The 2 President’s after Carter were included after CT they died. It took an act of Congress to make the coins and I believe that Congress will do the same for Carter.

When the SBA came out, I never heard it referred to as the Carter Quarter until many years later. I did hear kids refer to it as the Betsy Ross dollar.
I don't think there are 4 FDR coins, I guess it has to be non consecutive.
As for President Musk, time will tell.
