I came across a victoria 1892 gold sovereign at work. I took it in to a coin broker and had it test at 18 karat gold rather than 22 which its supposed to be 22. I was wondering if anyone has came across something similar because the weight is spot on, its just a different karat. Maybe its just a very convincing replica? What do you guys think?

I had a similar issue with a Cali Fractional and in the end we figured it was a replica made for cufflinks or similar jewelry

I don't have an 1892 dated sovereign, but here are two pieces from the era.
