Chris, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with your statement.....many VAM's not on the top 100/50/40 list have a bit higher value than say a normal non-attributed coin. At least to a VAM wienie it does. Or maybe I misunderstood your statement.....

Sounds like a good reason to me. :)

Not really. There are a few though that have enough general appeal due to having nice naked eye attributes that never made it on a list or are too new. These will probably make a future list though. The vast majority garner no interest outside of VAM enthusiasts. Most people could care less. Its all about the grade and slab for determining value if its not a list VAM, for the most part. And even a lot of list VAMs don't get too much of a premium over grade.

There are hundreds of VAMs which have added value if attributed.

    Out of thousands of VAMs.

Weak strike might explain the "wear" above ear. If so, this might catch a low MS grade. Would need to study the die pairing.

ANACS or NGC? Will send within the next week or so. I'm just way too curious not to send it anymore. As for who to pick I'm thinking NGC because I love their holders and I like the rep they get, however, ANACS would certify my coin as a VAM-7 which is cool. I've heard many different things about both. ANACS sometimes has graded 2 points lower than NGC. Oh man I don't know haha. If this coin graded say AU 50 by both companies would the NGC be worth more than ANACS?

NCG might bring a touch more but ANACS is known for Morgans and they have one of the best Morgan guys around working for them. If you just want it slabbed go with ANACS. Most of us Morgan guys like ANACS or PCGS

I would call it AU55 and don't think the ding is that bad. If I were selling the coin I would describe it as being nice AU with a minor reverse rim nick. Just my opinion, of course. The one time I compared my grading with that of PCGS (this was at a major convention) my grades were more conservative on something like 15 out of 20 coins.
