Please guess the grade of the 1982-P Jefferson Nickel shown below. I have attached a poll for you to cast your vote and you may select up to 3 different things: the numerical grade, FS or NOT FS, and + grade or star designation.

Little bit of orange peel look from die wear. Interesting what looks to be die chip between United States. Reminds me of the die chip you see over Monticello on some of the Henning nickels.

Steps actually look pretty well struck and full although I initially didn’t give this one FS so I stuck with that.

66 5FS ...I think the steps just make it (well maybe not with the NGC grader you got) and the surfaces are relatively clean (I don't think the unusual "texture" makes a difference in the grade, at least below the 67 level).

I am at MS66 on this one. I can let the ding go at the right of the steps bottom. But that break of step 1 is what caught my eye.

REVEAL: 1982-P Jefferson Nickel NGC MS65

All the guys who thought this would grade MS65 also thought this would grade full steps, including myself. Alas, the concussed NGC grader still couldn't see the steps he just fell down!!!!!

@Lehigh96 (ignoring the steps) what made you call it a 65 as opposed to a 66? Is it the "orange peel" surfaces (as kSigSteve calls it)?

Yes, the reverse just doesn't have the look of a premium gem coin. Perhaps if the obverse had been 67 quality I could have bumped it up to MS66, but honestly, I think the obverse is closer to 65 than 67.

I just said MS-65 and no FS, then I saw the photo graded. I got it correct.

I saw those surfaces as having a bit of cameo to them, they must be a bit more frosty.
