A friend of mine just dug this in a cow pasture in the neighboring county. It’s rough, but it’s plainly a Nova Constellatio! You can see the eye in the center of the design.
Yeah, even though it’s gonna have a pretty modest monetary value in that condition, it’s a real “wow!” find. For the history alone.
And it makes you wonder what else might be in that pasture! I’d have visions of 1792 half dismes in my head! That might not be likely, but it’s possible. I do know of one being found, some years back. Not around here, but still. You should see some of the other stuff this guy has dug. I almost wouldn’t believe some of it, except I’ve seen him in action, and been there when he’s dug other 1700s coins.
Same fella dug this one ‘round these parts a few years back. Sometimes in the well-drained, sandier soils here, the copper comes out nice.
If I'm correct, the coin was minted in Birmingham, England. Then finds its way to America. Eventually, I'm guessing, to S.E. Georgia. THAT would be an interesting story to read.
