How come 2024 nickels are selling at insane prices and is it the year to buy US Mints/Proof set? are nickels and pennies gone? Haven't seen a US Mint coin since 2021 redo on Morgan/ Peace worth buying? Your thoughts Ty sorry 2024 ? cant edit 2034 heading
Supposedly, the mintage figures for dimes and nickels this year, at only around 70,000,000 (again, supposedly) are the lowest they have been in decades. I need to look into the official mintage figures of both denominations as such low mintage numbers would be very unusual. I've seen and received 2024-dated cents, quarters, and dimes but I don't believe I have come across any nickels dating from this year in circulation.
Not sure that I have received a 2024D dime or nickel this year. Maybe 1. I think that they are stockpiled at the West Point mint. or another storage facility. I really don't think that they have needed to use them.
According to Wikipedia (as of Oct. 28) the mintages are: Philadelphia - 36,720,000 Denver - 32,880,000 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_nickel_mintage_figures
I thought you could buy rolls or bags of any current denomination from the Mint, but I don't see any such listing for cents, nickels, or dimes on their site.
Let's wait another ten years, and I'll be able to tell you. My time machine Delorean is in the shop. Busted flux capacitor. (Sorry- couldn't resist having some fun with the typo in the title.)
I handle so little change these days I have not noticed. I only set aside a silver Proof set each year. That’s the extent of my very coin coin collecting. As for a mintage 70 million, with most of then Mint State, I would hardly call that anything close to “not so common.” If these “rarities” do sell for a premium, don’t like the grass grow under your feet if you are a seller. It will be like the 1973-S silver Proof Ike, which sold for well over $200 in the early 1980s. Now it’s $20.
Sorry. I coulda done that for ya. Guess I was having too much fun cracking time travel jokes, and it kinda slipped my mind. I crack me up.
They're much lower mintages than the normal so people equate that to being "rare". Assuming 100 years from now people are collecting Jefferson sets, high MS examples might be worth what people are paying for them today. People forget valuable things are the ones people miss and very few people save. If everyone saves all of these that come out because they're rare, they will forever be common.
Time to sell? got 3 sets before sold out on Amazon at $75 only 200,000 s and 38 mil P and D compared to 667 mil 2023? me for 1 grabbing every 2024 Nickle I can find?
and then they grew up! Same parents 8 years apart both 2015 Westminster pups! Babies a red nose green eyed very few and she's sweet
Heard they made an additional 21 million nickels in November so the mintage ticked up. The Philladelphia mint nickels are up to 58.3 million now. The Denver still down at 32.8 mill that we know of. Who knows what they did in December.
