Hi, I just recently bought this large silver round. It's marked 1987 40 reales 0.999 on the edge of the round. I thought it was different, and it was a good deal to me, about $1.50 above spot price. I'm just wondering if anyone has run across these before. Also, is there anything special about them, and how much, if any premium over spot price? I apologize if this isn't the right area for this post. Thank you. image000001.jpg image000000 (1).jpg

That is quite cool! Silver pieces with such low mintages are always awesome.

People often don't realize that some rounds, especially Engelhards and silver like this, are incredibly rare (in terms of mintage). Once, I got a 1985 Liberty Trade Silver round (Engelhard) and it is one of just 10,000 made.

All I can say is, stack pieces like that while you can.

Thanks, I agree with you, especially with Engelhards! I've managed to snag quite a few rare, low mintage pieces over the years. They are fun to stack/collect.

Silver is silver no matter what country it’s from. Nice looking and welcome to CT.
