Thank you to my SS! In addition to this thoughtful note and several Hungarian coins from the second half of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise period (1892-1916), I also received 8 beautiful examples of Hungarian currency with elaborate writeups. These notes are from the transition period after the end of the Habsburg monarchy, through the late Soviet period. Interestingly, the sheet with the 2 korona note had examples of both a regular issue and a star note (which also has a different size typeface for the serial numbers), but my favorites are the 50 korona Rakoci and the small revised 100 korona, both of which are difficult types to find examples of. I don't think I've even seen this 50 korona type in person before. Excellent gifts, thank you again!
Do you collect with your son? That’s how I got started about eight or nine years ago when my son took an interest at the age of five or so. It’s been so much fun collecting with him through the years.
Thank you all for the compliments, but I really was only thinking of this year. It worked out for me because there were less participants than I actually thought might come in, so it was manageable. The best part of this was I got to pick who I wanted to be SS to, so consider that if any of you want to host this for next year or another, if not it might just go to who had it last year if he can do it again. The second best part of this was I got to at least for about a third to half of the participants, try to match up a SS with them that I thought would be the one that would most likely be able to find the 'right' gift for them, based on what I saw everyone's interests were. It was not all a random chance for everyone..... bwa ha ha. So I'm glad that you all seem really happy with the results.
Really appreciate you heading up the secret Santa this year. Hope you had a Merry Christmas and have a happy healthy and prosperous New Year.
Yes I do. I'm collecting to leave it all for him when it's my time to go. He is fun to watch, when he finds something that peaks his interest he does his research. He gets as excited as I do. Enjoy spending that time with him.
I drew the number today, and the winner of the random coin drawing is: @SchwaVB57 --- so probably I will mail that out later this week, possibly on Thursday or Friday.
