This danged thing has been an enigma. I've tried photoging it many times since 2014, but with little or no success. When the dollar coins were first issued, they sold out right away but then, in December 2014 (I think) they all of a sudden had a few more that they found for sale. I wound up getting two more pieces, but these coins had to be returns. You'll notice some imperfections and small scratches in my example. Anyway, this was the best I've come up with so far. Since I know the mint quality is a tad substandard, I (for the first time ever) removed the coin from its' capsule. The results are a little better but still not what I want to achieve. Maybe Bob (@robec ) can shed some light (pun intended ) Notice the beginnings of some toning on the reverse.
I didn't have anymore luck than you did. I took these 2 years ago. I took more, but can't find them. The problem is having a coin that is concave on one side and convex on the other. The light doesn't hit all areas like friggin normal coins.
Happy to know I ain't the only one Bob. Thanks for getting back to us....... No matter how I move the lights, there is still that pesky hot spot on the obverse.
Waiting for the sales numbers to come out today or tomorrow due to the holiday. Anyone think we'll see some new record low mintages?
Just got this one, graded NGC MS-66 PL. One of the very few modern commems known in prooflike condition:
Anyone have complete mintage according to all it's option for 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1995-96 Olympics?. Thanks.
That U S Mint website does not shown complete mintage on some of its option. Specially 1983, 1984, 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1995-96 Olympics. I call the mint. They too can not give us the complete mintage according to all options. If someone during those early years follow what they report to us. It should have a complete list. I too got those complete figures but was accidentally deleted during 1999.
