    Nice one!

    ... IF it's real.
This concern arose for me, too, though I can't really put my finger on the reason why. Something about the overall look.

As might I. I can't outright condemn this piece. Don't have the expertise to nail down what it is that looks "off" to me. Let's just say I'm vaguely suspicious, is all.

Hope those suspicions are misplaced. I'd be interested to hear the eventual results, should this one get submitted to a TPG for certification.

Should I have said Imitation Crabmeat? What is that anyways?

Not exactly relevant conversation for the guy who posted this coin, Sal...

It looks real to me. If it is a fake, it's a good one.

Indeed. I’m slightly suspicious, but I agree that it’s a pretty sophisticated fake if that is indeed the case.

Thank you all for the info. Based on fact he paid $340 (better be real) going to capital coins on the 26th to see what Will thinks and if he'll send it in? he's the only CAC LCS in Maine that I'm aware of.

FYI I think the bronze color is cardsncoins lighting because just saw it yesterday
and it's far more blast white than anything. Almost PL color.

While most of my doubts remain mostly unresolved, I will say that it looks a little better in that last set of photos. Not so much in terms of being able to make out the details, but at least the color seems more natural. Maybe the white balance was a tad off in the original photos?

i like the look of this coin, and i think it is genuine. Not sure what the mindset would be for a faker, but I personally would not put a planchet flaw right through the rim so it shows on the front and back.

I think the yellow cast on the photos comes from using an incandescent light. If you set the white balance a little to the blue side, then you should get more yellow in the photo. This results in a warmer, pleasant appearance.

I put the original images through Picasa's neutral color thingy, perhaps these are more what it looks like? If someone can find another with the same reverse die crack that would be evidence it's genuine (although still not 100%). I looked through a few dozen last night. With 13,880,000 mintage there could have been 100 reverse dies used, so you might have to look through >100 coins to find it. I don't see anything wrong with it myself.

Somewhat relevant to your concerns, I follow that seller's items and have purchased from them before. Seller deals with nicer coins, not bulk sellers of junk coins. Ratings are decent for the seller, you can't please everyone.

Ty Barney I vetted them and came up with same. FYI just back from LCS and sent out for grading we all agreed thing 65 FH and I'll send pics when back. Ty I think a very nice coin and Xmas present from a 60+ year friend (glad I put his 6 cords of wood up and take him suppers daily) If I didn't he'd drink it!

The 2nd photo with the natural coloring looks better than the golden one.

It’s definitely looking better after the subsequent photo editing.
