Nice coin for a gift! Must be a real good friend. ;)
As far as the rim issue, I'll wait for more experienced eyes. ;)

The one at 7 looks like it could be a planchet defect, maybe damage. Need better photos.
At 8 looks like small rim cuds or a folded over finned rim.

A defect in the rim at the time it was minted caused those.

Looks that way to me, too.

I'm always a little nervous seeing a coin this nice coming raw from an unvetted source. But I don't see any of the usual signs of a counterfeit. Always hard to be sure from photos, of course, but this one looks very nice.

I believe that "stuff" at the bottom of the 1s is their serifs.

    Can't compare a type 1 to a type 2. Two different designs.

Sorry to be a wet blanket but I'm leaning toward cast counterfeit.

The mark on the rim (obv at 11)/(rev at 7). Something about the head, possibly the expression on the face. Drapery over the right side, over the wall.. too thick. The overall appearance.. some detail that should be sharper for the grade isn't, there seems to be a little bit of a granular look in some of the fields. I may be totally wrong. More detailed pics and pics of the rim might make me see things differently.
The following comparison pic was found on a thread from the dreaded 'bay.
In it you can see that this is a lower grade version but there are a few similarities to the OP pic and the cast counterfeit. Again, I might be wrong..
