Where do you have your photos hosted?

I have a photobucket free account, but hate it. Unwieldy and they limit the resolution/photo size. Another site allows direct uploads to the threads which is nice, but I'm waiting for them to realized how much space those pictures take up and start limiting.

So, recommendations please on a site --free or fairly inexpensive-- that will allow hosting of fairly large photos and is user friendly for making posts.

I haven't explored the gallery thing here yet though, any quick synopsis (or link to a page where I can read) how it works?

I use the bucket as well but it's not much fun. You can upload your images from your hard drive straight to the thread you are posting in.

Www.Collectivecoin.com is good and easy and free and you can click "forum" on each pic and it copies a link you can paste in a forum. Plus the size limit is a very generous 10mb per photo. You can also put a price on coins to sell them to others browsing the site that may want to buy a coin they see

I used to use Photobucket for posting images on here but now I just upload straight from my hard drive, much easier and faster.

I am currently using CoinTalk for my Ancients. The storage limit is 100 MB so if you waned to keep large files here it wouldn't be idea. I keep the files I post to about 900 pixels wide so they're not very large. I've been concerned about losing all my files and photos and really need to get around to doing something about it. Probably use Amazon...but now I'm rambling...

Is it worth the time to create your own website and host your own images?

On two parallel external hard drives because I don't trust the Interwebs to keep anything safe and I only have to pay for them once.

External hard drives are dirt cheap, with a 2TB at less than $75.00. I have two, one for my photos, the other for all my tens of thousands of songs.

I've been using Collective Coin and am super happy with it. I read on another thread that the site is shutting down in a couple months. I REALLY hope they will keep a legacy site so current pix/links work but I don't know. I don't even know if it's true or not--hoping for not true. I tried a pm to ask but we'll see.

The 100 MB is useful information. Would use that up fast...and does it allow links to other sites (I'm looking at you NGC!).?

I'll have to look into that. I've started a vanity site (not quite ready for prime time). Basically 'build a website for dummies' using Weebly. Once I started taking better pictures I realized they were not saving to full resolution. Pretty good, but not full size, so I'm wondering how good that would be if I had an actual e-commerce site. I'm sure there is an upgrade plan that might allow for photo hosting, and that may actually be a good option...if they have something that works and allows full size storage.

If not...any web host platform 'for dummies' similar to ease of use (drag and drop content) like Weebly? I'm not so far into the project that I couldn't just migrate my domain name and start over...

Does Google Photos allow hosting? I mean, can I make a shared album and use that to link a photo to post here (or any other message board)? Hmm, I'll have to look at Amazon and iCloud too I guess.

Great for photo/music back up...I'm just hoping for a host for my photos here and on other websites. Like photobucket, only functional ;)

I just started using it a week ago. Its free and unlimited. I like it because it grabs all photos I take automatically, and they are viewed on any devise. So, I take a pic w/ phone, then save a image to my CT folder and share from there. No more xfering to pc :). The second I take a pic with phone, its accessible on my laptop.

I hope you have a backup somewhere else! Before the last overhaul, CT used to have a place where we could save our images besides allowing us to set up albums, but when they overhauled the system, I lost all of it.

To be honest, to all those who use alternate methods of internet back up, I'm glad it works for you but I have no faith in cloud or other storage methods except for my alternate hard drives. Way too many hacks and you open your photos to everyone in the world to see. Once on the net, they are pretty much public domain and anyone can use them for whatever purposes they like. I'm even thinking about a third hard drive to back up my other two on a regular basis. When I'm not using them they are secure and I never leave them on for any length of time for someone to gain access to them through a "Back Door" hack. Plus they are both protected by "True Crypt". Nothing is infallible today but I sure feel more peace of mind my way than the "Cloud". Just sayin'.

Ya...I don't! And I remember the migration. They say they're all still here...but I've never gone looking for mine, they weren't very good anyway.

I host my own through Go Daddy. A good friend here designed my page. Leaving Photobucket was the best decision I've made concerning my photos.
