I bought this coin, haven't gotten it in hand yet, but does anyone else see a 2 and a 0 in the date? 15541910_1462887323736250_7104527552006695097_n.jpg 15622718_1462887893736193_8354412516796728316_n.jpg

@Paddy54 I'm trying to tag him but my computer won't let me. Tag him and he'll tell you, he's big on Half Dimes

    You tagged him
I can see where the 2 could possibly be a clashed S but looks an awful lot like a 2. The 0 is way out of place to be a clash.

Your seeing the O from of and the S from states as clashes perhaps . There's also a lot going on in the denticals , neat little H10

Yes, there does seem to be something going on there, though I have nothing intelligent to add. Clashmarks would be my guess.

Fun coin. It took me a while to see the O and the S. Lots of stuff going on around the date. Same with the word DIME on the reverse.

If you notice the time stamp on my reply it was very early heading out to the coin show.
That said I will sit down and study the images to see if U can figure this one out. These little gems are full of surprises . I also notice items in the denticals plus need to study how close to the base is the date , and also check shield and gown for mpds.
Kind of beat now I picked up an another 1853 today myself and this one is special ! Will post soon!

I agree, probably a die clash. Everything is in the right position.

This is the 0 I'm seeing. Looped around the tail of the 3 and sitting into the denticals. I am having trouble believing it's a clash, for one it is completely out of place. To get a clash in that position, the coin would have to be severely misaligned. And two, it appears larger than the O on the reverse.

Then there is the appearance of the 2. This could be a clash of the S in States as it is in about the right position. If the 2, or S, is a clash, the 0 couldn't, not even possibly, be from the same clash. The 2 is between the 8 and 5 and under the 5.

I'm far from an expert in this series. In fact am hesitant to elevate my status to the level of novice. I have however examined hundreds of photos since spying this coin and have yet to see any like it. That may not be a good thing, but it has definitely made me eager to learn more about it. Attribution by anyone at this point would not only be nice, but quite welcome.
