Among the new coins I purchased a few days before Christmas there appeared one that I really liked. I think it had been posted on CT before, or at least a similar one. The reverse shows an owl standing on a flat lain amphora. The obverse figures a Seleucid king heading right ( Antiochos ). I admired the coin because I have an unexplained attachment to amphorae. I told this to my seller, and he smiled then revealed to me a real genuine amphora. He said Charles .. you deserve this.. And Happy Holidays. Watch and Cheers ..
First time poster long time lurker. Another innocuous title sucked me into here. I barely started collecting U.S. coins. I can't get hooked on ancients. I almost bought one at the coin show, but, walked away. Maybe someday down the road.
The seller in the shop who gifted me this amphora thinks it's Phoenician. He could be right. I scarcely know about ancient coins. So how about antiquities ?
7C, Wow, you buy a coin and get a bonus amphorae? The dealer was definitely in a holiday mood. I would count this as one of those "Life doesn't get better that this" moments. BTW, The reverse has a totally cool owl.
