Well, I've never owned a Barber anything, until today. Can't say these are my favorite US designs, but still beats anything modern in my opinion. I am pretty pleased with this one. It is in a PCGS holder, MS-62.
Nice! Be careful, you might get sucked into the Barber world. I never understand Barber dime grading. MS62? I don't see a single distracting mark on either side.
I think it might come to the fact that it is not quite as sharply struck as higher grade ones. Probably an obverse die that was starting to get a little tired, but other than that you are right, there really aren't any distracting marks of any sort. It is a very clean example.
Nice white coin. Reasonably affordable in 62. I like AU58 and MS62 as the "value" grades in some series. More bang for the buck, as they say.
While I'm not an expert by any stretch, I do have this series complete and believe they shorted it by a point. Maybe the faint obverse "scratch" or tiny ticks on the upper reverse? None of which are distracting. Beautiful specimen!
I agree about the AU58. But, in most cases, I'd rather have an AU58 than even an MS63 - more aesthetically pleasing to my eye.
I bought this one years ago, when I was dealer. I held on to it and still like it very much. It's a Proof-64, CAM. The purists don't like because it's been dipped. The dipping was done correctly. It has not changed in over 20 years. This one is a PR-66. It is darkly toned, perhaps too dark for some people. The Proof mirrors are still good.
