A very low end Julian II has a question

This AE1 of Julian II from the Heraclea mint has had a hard life. I pulled it out of a $7 box at a show a couple years ago and it looked better then. Shortly after I got it, I discovered it had a small spot of bronze disease on the eye of the portrait. I tried simple treatments but the green returned twice so it got the strong solution of sesquicarbonate treatment that seems to have taken care of the problem and ruined the surfaces. The BD ruined the eye without any help from the treatment so the obverse is a mess. The reverse, however, is better than many I see being sold on eBay for a lot more than $7. I have better Julians (with eyes on the portrait) so my question is what to do with the coin.

My title said Julian has a question. Who out there would like to adopt this poor coin at no cost? This is a giveaway. Unlike Ken's giveaways, I am not making you identify the coin. It is a Julian II with the pagan bull reverse of the last emperor to try to eliminate Christianity. Things did not go well for Julian. Unlike Ken, I am not opening this giveaway to the whole world. I am only willing to put it in an envelope and add a stamp to a US address --- no trip to the post office, no customs forms, no tracking, no insured delivery --- just a chance to see if I really did control the BD and to take over treatment if I did not. I also will require the winner have posted at least one post to the CT ancients section before this thread was posted.

I do suggest that the winner keep it separately from other coins and look at it periodically for a year to see if the fuzzy green returns. If you sell it on eBay, I will consider it inappropriate because of the bronze disease possibility. It would make a decent tie tack but AE1 28mm seems a bit large for a ring.

Like Ken, I ask you to post below if you would like to be included in the drawing. Past winners of Ken's giveaways are eligible but I would suggest that you not enter if you are not willing to keep an eye on the coin. I did not title this a 'giveaway' in the hope of avoiding entries from non-ancient coin people who have never heard the term bronze disease when this thread shows up in the Recent Topics list. Remember, this is a US only offering. If you see any interest in this bull reverse, please enter. The drawing will be done Monday.

I'm not big on bronzes, but I like that reverse, and maybe this coin will help me get over my paranoia about bronze disease. I would be happy to care for it.

Wow, it came back even with a coat of wax? Amazing.

Wax makes it worse if there is any moisture trapped in the coin. Best to avoid it, in my experience.

YES! I don't use wax with BD anymore, TIF is right! I baked the coin in the oven and waxed it fairly quickly...I guess not quick enough?

Don't count me in, but I liked reading about your BD treatment, and that you're giving the coin away.

Thanks for the generosity Doug! I look forward to adding the coin to the general population of my collection after its quarantine. I will also refrain from watching Alien around this coin, as the would-be quarantine situation in that movie did not work out well for those involved and I don't want to scare my new coin.
