I bought a Canadian 25 cent note at our local coin club meeting and have some interest in exploring collecting currency. I have been checking eBay and have the United States Paper Money Guide for reference. I've visited the PMG site. Since there seems to be an abundance of reproductions on the market, it seems I would want to stick to TPG items, given I have no experience. From what little I found on eBay, completed sales look to be a little above Guide prices. Comments welcome. Thanks

Read, read, and read... Buy the book before the bill also a coin club meeting is a pretty good place to purchase coins or bills you would like. See If they have a return policy if you send it to TPG and it comes back as counterfeit

I agree with the "read all you can" recommendation, but the need to buy only graded Notes depends, IMHO, on what you want to collect.

if your just in to it for a hobby sticking with non graded items may be the way to go
However if your going to be serious where allot of money is involved i would for sure go graded, i started off in the raw market but quickly moved in to investment grade notes from PCGS and PMG now thats all i collect.
