Hello paper money people! I recently purchased this 1928 silver cert. Wondering if the discoloration could be from a paper experiment or an error or maybe a coffee stain. Thanks for the help folks -Tom
Tom, I don't know alot about notes, but imo it looks like it has been put up in such a way that the darkened portion was left hanging out (like a book mark) where the elements (sunlight, dust) could get to just that part of the note beings that the rev. is not discolored. just a guess. John
ok, somebody has informed me that the YB block is infact a experimental note, although the discoloration in my note in the picture most likely has nothing to do with the experiment.
Yup, Y-B is an experimental block. The "bookmark" theory is probably correct in some manner. It just got exposed - nothing to do with the paper. Still, a damn nice find if it wasn't sold as an experimental. BTW is that a 28-A or B series?
This one is a 1928B. And thanks for confiming that for me! oh, i picked this up for 10.00, this is my second paper money purchase, maybe i got ripped but i don't care. I really wanted a funny back, and this was the only grade i could afford right now. I think i am going to start collecting silver cert. My next one will be a HAWAII note.
Your more than welcome. The note lists for $60 in VF. Don't think you got a VF there but for $10 you did good. I love funnybacks! Got some nice ones in the past like two with 3 digit serial numbers in CU. If you get into silver the 1935 plain are cool. Date and series not in the usual place. You can cherrypick coin dealers for these as well and they tend to go for more. Always nice to have a Hawaiin too. Good luck with your endeavour. clembo
