What do you call this error ?

Have it authenticated. It's just another $25-$50 risk. I wouldn't if it was mine as I don't know that the value of the coin, if a genuine error, would even exceed the cost of slabbing but if I really wanted to know......

I am sure although this type of error was never in my hand - at the interface of the plating and non-plated area under magnification say with 10X loop or stereo microscope maybe its irregular or there are some tell-tale signs which are DIAGNOSTIC like a clip coin needing flow lines or a die crack always being irregular. These must be rarer than pieces totally un-plated from my observations of error auctions. Sure I was suspicious until MD posted.

    Hi Pickin
Correct me if I am wrong. I can see mint luster around zinc ring and I can't find any finger print on coin with my loop, the seller who sold me this coin is coin dealer with the 3000+ 100% feedback also believe this BU , if this error who ever found it on roll will keep away not spend it , it so easy to spot from normal penny , unless it PMD coin . so if you ever found this kind coin on roll will you put it into circulation ?

bryantallard show me the money....so i can look through it

    1) just because he sells coins on ebay does not make him a "coin dealer".
    2) people buy things that look cool or different even if they are not an error...
but they think they are just because someone wrote "error" on the flip.
    3) if you want to know for sure...send it to Mr. Wexler. just because someone here
tells you it's not, does not mean it isn't. just because someone says it is an error,
does not mean they are right.

In my opinion, I really don't quite understand how a partial plating can end up so centered on both sides on the Cent. It's not like the Blank Planchet is plated afterwards. The Obverse plating is smaller and dead center. The Reverse is larger but dead center also. What are the chances of that!

But if Mike Diamond says he has seen this "Bullseye" type if plating before then it could be.
Kevin, Please inform us whenever it is that the TPG sends you what they attribute it as. I/we really want to know.

well...that person also said $25-$50. Wexler is $4. I don't know if it something he specializes in, but you can shoot him an e-mail. (if you want)

I've presented photos of these bullseye plating patterns in at least two of my Coin World columns.

Interesting, let's see what the TPG says.

I have a hard time imagining how you'd do something like that to the coin postMint, to be truthful, but the rest of the coin is so deteriorated - especially the obverse - I've a hard time believing it isn't. And the remaining copper looks like it's never been in a pocket or outdoors. Kind of a conundrum. :)

That's very interesting. They must not have referenced any of @mikediamond articles.
