Hey Everybody, You guys made out great this year! I've really been enjoying the Top Ten lists. I would like to contribute my list, as well as my brother's. First up, mine . 1. I've show this one several times, but it's uniqueness and mystery still intrigue me: It's a bronze Shekel of Jerusalem. 2. I never thought I would be able to add this one to my collection, since it can go for well over $1000 in really good condition. But, this price tag on this one was right, so I jumped at it: It's the Augustus denarius commemorating the passing Haley's Comet. 3. This one is way cool: It's a Widow's Mite with a flipped/double strike. 4. I'm starting to add coins with Christian symbols on them, here is the first: As you can kind of see, there is a cross in the altar. 5. Finally, here is Constantine looking up to the heavens: Thanks everybody! I'll post the bro's coins next. Erin
My brother hit the jackpot this year. Check these out: 1. His first participation in the CNG auction got him this sweet Bar Kochba silver zuz: 2. He got himself some gold too: Gold solidus featuring Heraclius, Heraclius Constantine and Heraclonas. 3. He wanted to get a Corinth stater, so here it is: He also wanted to get a really small, really old coin, so he found this one: It's a 1/96 stater- 4.43 mm, 0.19g from 625-600. He also got some sweet antiquities. Cuneiform tablets: To top it off, a rockin' scarab with crocodiles!
Nice set! I like the eyes to Heaven type. That is a pretty major statement by the emperor. You wonder if he had been naughty and hoped the almighty wasn't looking.
I have to agree @Johndakerftw Erin: The Augustus Comet is GREAT! I would really like to have one, and am on the prowl. Great coins for 2016 for yourself!
Your Bro collects like I do! LOVE the selection. I want to get a Cuniform Tablet sometime also. The Scarabs are a focus of mine, and I really like them. Great JOB you two!!!
I'm a sucker for Constantine so that's my favorite from your list. Your brother's scarab is pretty awesome. I'm glad the two of you get to share this hobby together.
WOW!! You and your brother had a great year!! I love your Augustus comet denarius and the widow's mite..... and I'm so jealous of the silver Bar Kochba coin (shekel?). And those artifacts are sweet too !!
Great coins, Erin! Halley's comet passed in 87 B.C. during the rule of Alexander Jannaeus and then again during the reign of Augustus in 17 B.C. I can't help comparing the star image on both coins—the Jannaeus prutah and the Roman Augustus.
Great coins, Erin ... thanks for showing your Canadian stuff!! I like your holed-winner and I love your bro's grapes-coin!! (congrats)
Thanks everybody! We enjoy showing off our our gems. My brother goes to college next year, so he really worked on knocking some things off his wish list. I have a pretty small budget for coins, but, I think I made out really well despite that little hurdle. Erin
You are two, we're all alone...too easy for you Nice set of coins. It must be fun to share this passion with a brother Q
