The odds are indeed, remote. I consider that in the past 10 years, our fellow CRH enthusiasts have produced 2 1969 S DDOs and 1 1955 DDO. Just from those reporting their finds, going through hundreds of of boxes equating to millions of cents searched, I’m not aware of a single person ever finding the 1982 D small date copper or a 1983 copper. I don’t discourage folks looking for a particular variety but I sometimes wonder if some/most of them understand their rarity and set realistic expectations.
Now consider that PCGS and NGC have graded over 10,000 of the 1955 DDO out of a mintage of just over 33 million, while 1982-D saw a mintage of over 6 billion and only 2 bronze small date have been found in 42 years. If only one new 1955 has been posted here in 10 years, imagine how long it will be before any 1982-D small date bronze. (Hint - I'll be long dead).
yes it is and I have! Sometime useful information can be helpful to newer collectors who might not see the reasoning behind the questions asked. Basically if Kevin, knowing the realistic expectation's for new collectors can stop a lot of the confusion with newer hobbyists! Some believe there are hundreds of these coins when in fact, many will waste years chasing their tail!
A scale would help but you have to know what you’re looking for! That’s why ppl come to coin talk and ask for answers! Help or don’t help! We all get back more then we give!
