I have this piece, what I presume to be a coin though it is cased in a holder which allows it to be worn as a necklace. The case only allows me to see the front of it, so I can't show any pictures of the reverse of it, as it is simply just the flat back of the case. Can anybody tell me anything about it? Thanks.
Here is a hopefully better PDF of it. In case it's hard to read, around the edges it reads "VICTORIA DEI GRA BRITT REGINA FID DEF IND IMP. Hope this helps
Without the reverse image it might be impossible to tell There are a few with that Obverse https://en.numista.com/catalogue/index.php?mode=avance&p=1&r=&e=&d=&ca=3&no=&i=VICTORIA DEI GRA BRITT REGINA FID DEF IND IMP&v=&m=&a=&t=&dg=&w=&g=&f=&co=y&cno=y&cc=y&cn=y&cj=y&ce=y&cu=y&cat=y
There isn't really a bezel, it's sunk right into this holder type thing. I'm trying to persuade it to come out, but I'm not having much luck. Any ideas on how I would go about getting it out?
Don't use a metal instrument to pry it out, or you will leave marks on it that decrease it's value. I'm not really sure a safe wa to get it out, but you could start with youtube.
Just took the image out of the PDF document so to say. Here it is, but I cannot provide an answer to the original question ... Christian
It is some sort of made for jewellery modernish non coin. Possibly dates from a time when sovereign rings and pendants were popular but lookalikes made from gilt metal or low carat gold were a lot cheaper but were good enough for the sort of people who thought it a good idea to wear them.
