I just got back from the CINA coin show (Central illinois numismatic association), and got some nice finds! i bought a 1887 morgan, ANACS MS-63 with BEAUTIFUL toning for $40.00, lots of barber quarters, a few nice mercs, and a couple REALLY nice buffalos. I will get some pics up later.
Ok, heres the link. I only photoed the nicer ones. All of the barbers are in VF, and i really don't have the time now to photo them all. I will get around to it though. http://www.freewebs.com/ccmacrophotos/showfinds.htm
I'm 45 with no kids. Wonder if I could rent some for shows? Nice job codydude815! Gotta love a good show!
Congrats on the finds Cody & I agree... I've always wondered about the connection between boyscouts & coin collecting and I fully believe it's because the 'smart folks' rent the kids for coin shows ~ they get the best deals I'm going to go sign up for being a 'Den Mother' or something ...
I know Cody - I was referring to how many of the collectors (men) say they got their start in coin collecting when they were in the boyscouts - they earned a badge or medal for the project.
nice pick ups cody, and you're right being 14 doesn't hurt your negotiating positions if you know how to do it. And it seems you do! lol
Some guy was a total JERK today too though. Iasked him to see a coin, he sighed heavly, pulled it out of the case and THREW it at me, not tossed but threw it. So then i asked him how much, he swore under his breath to look it up, and gave me a little over greysheet ask, when i asked for bid, he started lecturing me on how kids should not be let into coin shows because they eat up dealers time. So i flat out told him i didn't want the coin at that point, and then he got p**sed that i wasn't gonna buy it. Blows my mind. It was a DMPL morgan that seriouly was gonna buy until he started acting like that...
Now... I wasn't there and I'm sorry he was a 'jerk' but I must ask, Cody, Why would you expect a dealer to sell you a coin at bid? Selling to you at greysheet 'ask' is already a good deal considering the time & money they invest in traveling to shows, setting up, paying bourse fees, spending money on gas, food, hotels, etc. Greysheet is usually a 'dealer to dealer' wholesale trading list. I know you sell on Ebay now and then and you are a very enthusiastic collector but unless you are a coin dealer I think 'ask' is a very fair price offered.
I know, but the reason i was asking, is because at this particular show, almost every dealer sells at bid or less.
