Thumb cleaning

    Oh yeah. There are scratches all over the supposed "1" and scratches where the VDB would have been. It looks like someone went after it with a pocket knife.

    I've found that thumbing works on some lower grade silver dimes and such that have black ugly splotchy toing on the sides of the faces and thus poor eye appeal. Just giving them a light hand cleaning in warm water and then a slow circular rub will usually clean up the coins side of the face and thus make it much more attractive and thus many more higher bids than by doing nothing at all to the coin. JMO

    not always the oil on the hand either... one 'coin dealer' once showed me, with pride, how he 'shined up a copper coin' w/oil from his ear... and to think we've been throwing those dirty Qtips in the trash ...
