Found this Craigslist ad from a local seller. I wanted your opinion on this. I've included the three photos from the ad.

    It's for a 2016 1/10 oz American gold eagle.

I'm trying to figure out what the seemingly giant slab is that it's in, and what's with the text talking about a gift. Was this originally bought from a TV ad or something similar? Might be a plastic display mount?

Would any of you ever consider buying something like this from a person selling on Craigslist? I definitely hesitate with something like this.

Also, since APMEX lists one (BU) for $137.24 right now, I'm going to guess that the seller's $200 OBO asking price is too high.

In this case (for gold bullion), I'd feel better with ordering from APMEX and not dealing face-to-face with a Craigslist seller. You never know....

But I'd love to hear your opinions. What would you do? Thank you.

With gold at $1,176.84, there is no reason to go after that coin. There are plenty of reputable outlets to purchase one cheaper if you want one.

Seller is way too high. He's asking the equivalent of $2,000 an ounce. Run, don't walk.

    LOL. Thanks everyone.

I noticed that it was overpriced (based on a quick APMEX search last night).

I wasn't sure if it was even worth trying to haggle at all, or even worth it to arrange a meet place/time with a stranger to try to buy such an item (assuming a good price was agreed upon).

I should contact the seller and ask what the lowest price they'd accept would be, just for curiosity's sake.

I usually compare any bullion purchase to Apmex or ProvidentMetals, or other Bullion sites. I know I'm going to get an authentic one from Apmex or Provident, so less likely to get scammed.

With sellers like that they are looking for a profit and they probably don't track at all the PM prices but the prices where ever he bought it from are selling it, which is usually a good premium.

So, I'd just buy from apmex/ provident instead of going through the hassle.
