Chinese coins have always been hard for me to grade. I sent (NGC) 4 and a 1D in for grading end November. 1. (1903) Kirin 10 Cash(es) XF45 I anticipated VF35-XF40. #2 1928 Honan 200 Cash VF35 I had hoped XF40. These are crudely struck heavy and beat up. #3 1906 Fukien 10 Cash. Unc ED I anticipated AU. Didnt know color would get it ED. I guess what i thought was wear was a weak strike area. #4 (1902-06) Anwhei 10 Cash XF45 Anticipated VF35-XF40. (coin at top) #5 1806 1D MS62 Was prior sent to Pcgs who said cleaned. Disagreed. I was hoping MS63. In conclusion im still learning alot about grading and ED.
I've found that any abnormality in the color like spotting or streaking (or obviously corrosion or pitting) is likely to get an ED designation at NGC/PCGS.
Neat group. My son collects Empire Chinese coins and many are crudely struck. I should not have passed on some of those 200 cash coins I thought were low grades!!
Actually its the same with the honan 50 cash 100 cash and 200 cash. If you get anything graded above XF your doing well. Ive got about 5-6 of these vf-xf.
Heritage just finished a huge auction of Chinese andasia coins. I bought 15 coins in 2 lots. I always post my coins to the Post you China Empire Coins Thread.
Great, this is a good thread. I will post some to this thread too if my son lets me use his coins! He's only twelve but has been into Chinese coins for several years. Likes cash coins and Empire coins. I do have a neat double struck piece I picked up at a local show. Will post that as well
You might want to upload them to the post you Empire/Republic china coins thread. If you check under world coins its easy to find. You will see alot of examples there.
