I know the US went overboard with the billions of bicentennial coins but did they make any special centennial coinage?

I don't think so. But there are some Commemorative medals from the 1876 International Exhibition at Philadelphia. 1876phillymedal obv.jpg 1876phillymedal rev.jpg

About the only thing the US did for the circulating coinage in 1876 was they introduced slightly modified hub designs on most of the Seated coinage. For the most part nothing you would notice unless you are a specialist. For example on the dime the wreath was reworked slightly so the E in ONE is now a little further away, and the left ribbon ends in a single point instead of a double point. On the quarter the spacing of the letters in STATES was changed, and on the half dollar the first berry on the olive branch was changed from split to pointed. There are some other minor changes as well.

The Mint also issued a half dollar in 1926 for the 150th (not my coin. Public domain photo).

There were some national bank notes issued in 1876 that celebrated the revolutionary war and the founding of the country.

They were in circulation then, but they actually started circulating in 1864-5.

Can any be verified as having been printed in 1876? I'm under the impression that is the case.

Funny this question would come up,just as I found these coins from some stuff my father in law left me.Was going to ask if these coins worth keeping,I save Canadian 1$ and .50 cent coins not really up on American coins.just thought I would get some insight from this knowledgeable group.Have not posted much but always read this news letter front to back.
