people talking and buying platinum, gold and silver ranging from $100, $50, $25, $10, $5, $1 denominations. statehood quarters, westward journey nickels, the kennedy halves, the sacagawea & presidential dollars. are we forget about the dime and penny (cent)?. tell us about your collection on these two types. anyway, by 2009, the lincoln cent will be active again. like four design on its first year and a reverse design on 2010. so dime is the lonesome guy. hopefully the mint will do something about the dime too. maybe changing the design will help?.

Personally I think the mint has gone a bit overboard with changing the coin designs as of late. The mint and proof sets for the next few years are already ridiculous enough. While it is true that the dime has had the same design for over 60 years, I'm all for leaving it alone for now.

I suspect they have ideas in the pipeline:
The Kennedy half will have 50 years of circulation in 2014 or the JFK centennial in 2017.
    Perhaps a 3 year series from 2014 to 2017?

The Dime will be 70 in 2016.

These comem design changes on the circ curr are the most interesting for some collectors. I suspect that the
popularity is also very high with the general public but no stats on this are available?

I think the cent and dime are vastly underrated. These may not be workhorse coins like they were long ago but they are still made every year and at least the dime still serves a function. There is a vast array of cents in circulation and the dimes can be pretty tough in nice shape. The varieties of all these coins are also underrated and undercollected. The '68 DDO dime, for instance, is common enough it could be promoted but scarce enough to be interesting. It's rarely seen offerred but they are out there and even appears in the mint sets.

I should pay more attention to the cent varieties but I collect only the major ones of these from 1965 to date. One of these days I'll probably go through my rolls and extend the set back to 1959. I collect the dimes from 1965 too, and have put a lot more effort in these. I've got the entire set with varieties in gem or better!! Many of them are quite PL and mark-free. The one cent coins are pretty spectacular too, but is probably improvable without extreme cost or effort. A lot of people would be surprised to see the mid-date zincolns. Many of these look like branch mint proofs.

Eventually I'll probably add the proofs to these sets too, but will wait until the series are retired at least.

I'm pretty proud of my '82-NMM dime. It may be a die adjustment piece made before the weak strikes were produced. It has nearly razor sharp lettering and is pretty clean as well.

I have a complete lincoln cent collection that I finished in 2003, but I am always looking to upgrade some of the better date coins

    who said dime is worthless?.

SAN JOSE, Calif. - John Feigenbaum didn't sleep at all during his redeye flight across country. He's not a nervous flier — he had a dime worth $1.9 million in his jeans pocket.

Feigenbaum, 38, of Virginia Beach, Va., is a rare coin dealer, and the dime he was carrying from San Jose to New York is a 1894-S dime, one of only nine known to exist.

He picked up the dime, one of only 24 known to be coined in 1894 in San Francisco, on Monday from the seller's vault in Oakland. He delivered it to the buyer's vault the following day, in midtown Manhattan.

Feigenbaum said he and the seller's agent will split a 6 percent commission on the deal.

Feigenbaum said he put the dime, which is encased in a 3-inch-square block of plastic, in his pocket. Accompanied by a security guard, he drove to the airport.

Shortly after boarding the plane, Feigenbaum transferred the dime from his pants pocket to his briefcase.

"I was worried that the dime might fall out of my pocket while I was sitting down," he said.

All across the country, Feigenbaum kept checking to make sure the dime was safe by reaching into his briefcase to feel for it.

"It's the Holy Grail of coins," he said.

by next year, the cent will be popular again. but what about dime?. should we collect them?. this is the only coin that never promote it yet.

The first coins struck by the mint were'nt gold or silver dollars, they were cents and half cents, peoples coins that were meant to get down and dirty with working peoples business.

That implies that the cent is not popular. I think I am missing something here.

I'd like to see the mint do a complete design overhaul on all coins starting in 2010 and not change circulating designs for ten years. I believe it would keep things interesting without going overboard. Just a thought.

I am ready to see a little retrenchment in 2010. Let's not ruin the hobby like the stamps did.

    New Dollars.

I don't believe the Mint has the right to leave, (In God We trust) off the new Presidential Dollars.
