Hello all! Happy Turkey Day early. I'm giving this daily thread a shot, so don't hate. It's about posting your "Woodie Coins". A woodie is an improper alloy mix, which gives the cent a wood grain appearance. I don't think that it's on the cent only though.( not quite sure). I don't currently own one, so I borrowed one from the internet.
OK, this is not quite what you intended (I don't have any pix of woodgrain-toned coppers, either, at the moment). But here are some past "woodies" of mine, if you use one of the other definitions of the term. I used to produce wooden nickels and wooden dollars, back before I did elongated coins. Here are all of my exonumia types to date (except one, mentioned below). Many thanks to @ZoidMeister for archiving those on the TokenCatalog site. TC-616521. Wooden Dollar, stock design in red. Circa 2005-2006. Approximately 100 produced. The third and final LordM "woodie" produced. (*There was also an earlier series with a stock Buffalo nickel design, in green. Not even I still own one of those, so there's no photo of that type.) (Don't freak out about me sharing the personal info on there- it's all obsolete now anyway, except the eBay ID.) TC-648419. Circa 2004. Laser engraved. Prototype; only ten produced. Engraved by member "laserart", from Collectors Universe. The only token to show an image of the fictional Lord Marcovan character. Not even I own one of these anymore.
@Randy Abercrombie - having visited your office, I have some small inkling of the work you do, but no clue what a “Division 10 specialty” is. Edit: aha. The AI search bot just set me straight on that.
Fancy name is architectural specialties. Real world is toilet fixtures. I am the toilet stall king of the southeast….
Woodies are also somewhat plentiful on world coins. I have some Australian half pennies with the wood grain effect. Here is a woody Indian Head of mine: Part of my slogan: "Capture the beauty of coins with crystal-clear amateur photography!" (if you know Auction Kings, you know).
