That's fantastic. I have never seen a medal from that era that didn't use a traditional letter style.

Very humble coin but it keeps the thread moving: 1713

Here are two coins for 1713, both from Mexico City.

First, here's a coin that I have paraded out several times before, purchased 34 years ago at the Long Beach Coin Expo.

    Mexico, Philip V, 8 escudos, 1713 J.
    KM 57.1
    26.96 grams

    D-Camera Mexico 8 escudos 1713 J 26.96g km 57.1 long beach 1-90 3-22-22.jpg

    Mexico, Philip V, 8 reales, 1713 J.
    KM 47

This coin is not from the 1715 Fleet. Instead it journeyed east, evidenced by the chopmarks on both side. The elongated shape of the flan is quite typical for the silver coinage of this period. It seems that more care was taken to assure that the flans for the gold coinage were rounder. The gold cob actually shows signs of hammering done after minting, creating beveled edge surfaces on both sides.

My contribution for the year 1712 is a very crude coin.

Viceroy of Peru, Potosi, 8 reales, (1)712 Y (Diego de Ybarbouru).
    KM 31
    26.66 grams

    D-Camera Potosi 8 reales (1)712 Y 26.66g 11-22-21.jpg

This is a very typical example for this date and for the period to about 1725 when the quality improved somewhat. The intent behind the minting of this coin was to produce coinage rapidly, as Philip V needed a flow of money to pay for the Spanish War of Succession, which had another two years to run. Crude flans and dies were the norm, along with sloppy minting. This coin is actually pretty decently centered on a typically uneven flan. The full date"712" is visible, albeit mushy, and a partial date can be seen on the reverse at six o'clock.

Grading these coins is quite problematic. Given the crudeness the coin could be described as a nearly as struck Fine. Many of these coins probably had no better than VG details coming from the mint. That is why bold, pleasing, well struck examples command considerable premiums.

I have not much to offer for 1712. This GB shilling is the best of them:

We have apparently stagnated upon the year 1712.

I have few coins but must wait until the 17th century b4 I can help. Incidentally I do have one of these cob 8R's in "lusterous mint state" but it is an undated Philip-II (1580's). Perhaps I can discern the year by looking at the assayer & other stuff?

I can move onto 1711, if people are ready?
This is an Queen Anne GB Shilling that has been doctored to pass off as a Guinea, a capital offence at the time. Not only has it been gilded, but the forger has even inscribed imitations of the sceptres in the fields, which are found on the guinea but not the shilling.
