Today, I met the sister of a friend who I was told collects coins. I brought these two coins and asked her which interested her more. The idea was to gauge how much she knew about numismatics. She said she preferred the 3 cent piece, but mistook it for a dime. I was disappointed that she wasn’t nearly as nerdy about coins as I am, but still had a pleasant conversation and I may help her fill her wheat cent collection down the road. Have you met any new collectors lately? Tell us the story!
99% of the people I know that are collectors I know from online only. I am active here on CT, plus Instagram and Discord. I have had the opportunity to meet a few collectors at shows and I do enjoy that. I will say, when I meet new people and they find out I collect , there's lots of people out there with at least a little interest in the hobby. I've met some that save star notes, old nickels, etc. I've personally taught a couple coworkers with a slight interest about what US coins contain silver and general coin knowledge. It's always fun to impart a little information.
