I’m not a variety collector but I had to have this one. It’s a 1856 Seated Liberty Dime with the Large Date. The large date is 3 to 4 times more costly than the small date. 5,780,000 were minted of both types. This is the first date of the Variety 2 Resumed with the weight standard of Variety 3. The price was lower than a small date so I’m pleased that I own her.
What say you @Randy Abercrombie? :)

Yes siree Dave…. That does appear to be a large date to me and that is quite a bite more desirable than the small date. Cool dime!

Thanks buddy! That large date is why I bought it. I paid less than the cost of a small date according to the Red Book.

How about sharing some knowledge here? What makes a large date? Is it the 6?

The Small Date variety has a "Slanted" 5, while the Large Date has an "Upright" 5. The Small Date is about 5 times more common than the Large Date.
