I found this 1794 large cent the other day. It was pretty bad. I did some electrolysis on it to bring it back some. This is as good as it’s going to get i believe. I know there are so many variations of this year. Can anyone attribute it from what’s visible? It’s in really bad condition for being in the ground for 200 years.

Nice find for a "dug" coin". Did you try weighing it and checking the size even if it has become Environmentally damaged"?
You have it in hand. Who else to determine the variety. Here is a guide though.

Definitely a head of '95; S-71 seems to fit best...

Thank you for your reply. I was thinking the 71 as well, but on the 70 the 3 leaves next to the D and the two leaves under the O are more prominent on the 70, than the 71. I'm really not familiar with these large cents as this is the first one I found in readable condition, and I never buy them. I'm learning as I go (about a week in now). I didn't pick up on the head of 95 at all. I was thinking that was to far gone to worry about. Now you gave me something else to learn about. Thank you for that. I enjoyed researching this coin.

After further research i have to agree with you on the 71. The only thing that a little off is the 3 leaves next to the D. All the 70s i see the middle leaf is strong like mine but the 71 is weak, but other than that everything else seems to be a 71. The 70 has a die crack on the obverse mine does not. However they say there are some 70s that don’t have the crack. But at the end of the day i will be sending it off to get the S-71 attribute.
