I'm shamelessly promoting this to get more people to sign up. Only 15 more days to get up to 200 posts (if you don't already have them) and then get a PM to me to say you want in. Secret Santa time is nearly here!!! What coins would you give or receive???? (no guarantee that the gift wrapping will be this nice, but it's the gift that counts, not the wrapping)
I'm kind of maxed out with Christmas and my other forum Secret Saturnalia. The mail-out time would also be too late for me, as I have to buy from a dealer. Well, I know a couple who would come through in time, but my choices would be limited. Sounds fun, though. About how much are those little bars of silver I saw in last year's one?
I'd also like to thank @Kasia for taking over this year. I was promoted at work a couple months ago and have been getting things in order there!
I'm in. I skipped out last year since my 2022 gift never arrived, (compensation was very kindly provided) but I'm looking forward to it this year. Thanks @Kasia for hosting!
I've been away for far too long! And, I noticed that I do not meet the requirements. So, my new New Year's goal is to chat more here, and to meet the requirements for next year's Secret Santa!
True, right now you don't meet the requirements, but there is not anything stopping you finding 50 more coin related posts to either make a post about or comment on to up your count. So, perhaps you will, perhaps you won't, but if you do, you are welcome to dm me and put your name in it for this year if you do that by Nov 30th.... 9 more days.
Oh Boy! Only 6 days until the cutoff to sign on for The Secret Santa. Someone's going to get a nice box of coins!!
Count me in. I’ll message you shortly, @Kasia. Hats off to you for taking up the baton this year. I would like to also announce that @Randy Abercrombie and I will be kicking off this year’s Twelve Days of COINmas series of contests soon- right after Thanksgiving. We will be doing twelve drawings between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Update: the contest is now open! (Click the link above or pic below for more info)
I would love to join in the festivities, but I don't know the rules or what it entails. I have the required posts and a US address, but don't know what the contest rules are. Do we get someone's name and send them a coin and hope to get one back or what? I have no idea what this is. Tks
Yes, you send @Kasia your name and address in a private message. She will give your info to your Secret Santa, who should send you a coin. In return, you will also receive the name and address of someone else, to whom you are supposed to send a coin, anonymously. You can do some research on them to see what they like, if you want to customize the gift. $25 minimum value. It’s fun.
The rules are that you send me a dm with your name and addy and I pair it with someone else who did that, with you in turn, getting a different person's name and addy as your 'recipient'. Then you find a coin or two that fits in with (usually) your recipient's interests and send that to them from 'Secret Santa' to arrive prior to Christmas. After Christmas or if you end up opening your own present early for some reason, which some do, you take pictures, put the pictures up here and thank your Santa for a wonderful gift. The basic price structure is around 25 dollars but everyone has their own ideas of what they can afford in a year so people do fluctuate on what they spend. The big rules or guidelines are that if you enter, you don't stiff your recipient and you don't downgrade what you get and you do post pictures and thank your Santa. People who send out a fairly high priced (a bit over the 25$ for example) gift might have someone who enters who an only afford a 15 or 20 value and so not get the same in return. We have some pretty generous Secret Santa's over this time, but the holiday spirit and trying to find something that your recipient would like that fits in your budget is more what this is all about (my opinion). We have had very few not get the gift their Santa was supposed to send, but we also have something in place so that gets taken care of (some santa's volunteer to do a second gift if necessary). Lastly, most Santas notify the coordinator (that's me this year) with the tracking details so that I can verify things were sent.
@Kasia - I volunteer to be the “Grinch Insurance” guarantor, in the (hopefully-unlikely) event that someone gets stiffed by their Secret Santa, or for whatever reason does not receive a coin gift. I’ll be the standby option, in case of such mishaps. Send ‘em to me, and I guarantee they’ll get something.
