strange quarter

Hi all, I found a single sided quarter today and was looking for some help as to this is a real error of not. One side shows the eagle but the other side appears as if it's been like routed out. It still has the complete rim going around it and the whole thing is very thin. Also, on the blank "hollowed out" side, it is silver in appearance. Just wondering what this might be. Sounds like an altered coin to me. Half of a magicians coin. If you can post a pic, that will help.
