I think is a 1983 or 87 and I am puzzled with the possibility of partial letters or numbers at the bottom of the coin. ????? Your answers will be highly appreciated.
I dont see any zinc showing through for an acid bath or some type of corrosion for the date you are guessing at, it has some fairly deep gouges that I thnk would show zinc. Can you weigh it to see if it's zinc or copper? Could be a 1981. With the lines running from northwest to southeast it kinda looks like it could be struck through cloth, with the reverse looking fairly normal.
Thanks but I don't think is the result of any type of acid. As I have read about the1982-83 planchets alloy were kinda bad and created all kinds of problems. quote: "The copper-coated zinc planchets introduced in 1982 caused all sorts of problems" page 100 Red Book Lincoln Cents, 2008 edition. and I was thinking if this might be one of those problems...but I am very curious about the letters or numbers on the bottom of the coin and how it happened.
It took me awhile but I do see letters I would say are scrached onto this coin but I have no idea why they are there.
