HUH???? I thought that 2006 was the 20th Anniversary? So sorry.....my mistake.....brain tumors ya know. swick
That's odd. Here's another one: http://cgi.ebay.com/2005-PCGS-INSER...8684534QQihZ004QQcategoryZ39488QQcmdZViewItem
Well....since I know absolutely nothing about numismatics, and PCGS knows EVERYTHING.......they must be correct......right?? LOL swick What gives with PCGS? Maybe they've got brain tumors also.
20th coin Think about it guys, 2005 was actually the 20th coin minted in the series!! That is where they are comming from!
Didnt the ASE series start in 1986? So, 20 years from that would be, uh, 2006. I didnt graduate in the top 2% of my class but that is twenty years isnt it?
OH....now I understand?!?!?!?!? I think. Then it must be the US Mint that's in error?? I'm soooooooooooooo confused.....which isn't very hard to do, by the way. Will someone PA-LEEEESE, just tell me what the heck is going on?!?!?!?!?!? THANK YOU! swick
Well, there are a lot of 2006 20th anniversary Silver Eagles out there. Those are the only 2005 I've seen. :rolling: All the NGC graded ones are 2006 anyway: http://www.ngccoin.com/news/viewarticle.asp?IDArticle=405
2005 would be the 20th in the series, but it's only the 19th anniversary. The first anniversary would have been 1987. hya:
I agree completely, I guess it was just another way to make up a rarity or unique coin! Eveyone seems th put PCGS above all the rest of graders but I've seen some very borderline grades from them. Nobodys perfiect but people think they're the top of the line and are willing to pay premiums for their stuff!
What you are missing is that you have to count 1986 - not just add 20 years. If you do, starting with the coin dated 1986, then you will see that the coin produced in 2005 was the 20th coin in the series. But of you are counting anniversaries it is different. The frst anniversary was in 1987 and the 20th anniversary was in 2006.
So, did PCGS make a mistake with the label? I cant find any 2005 20th anniversary SAEs in my price guides. West Point Mint (or whoever does it) designates/recognizes 2006 as the 20th Anniversary, not 2005. Its really no biggy to me I was just wondering if the TPGs label is right or not.
Yes the label is right because they counted anniversaries - not coins. The 20th anniversary coin is actually the 21st coin in the series. That's all there is to it.
Yes it is or was. Think there was an old thread in here somewhere about this. Seems some of the TPG certified in that way. . There were a number of these 2005 anniversary coins at one time that I have seen for sale. Lots of people thought the 20th anniversary sets should have been done in '05
That slab looked familiar. So, I dug around my safe to find this one. I think I bought it on TV late one night when my mind was in a fog. Now that I'm looking at it again, I kinda like it.
I've seen these before and it was confusing too. The same way SGS seems to think it was ok to label the 2006 PLAIN Silver Eagle as the 2006 W Eagle ... all because ALL of the eagles are now minted at Westpoint since 2001. So many folks bought those confusing the two last year because they didn't flip the plastic over & realize the difference. Remind me again.. TPG's were formed to....authenticate?
