Have come across the above "tokens" with the Gobrecht design. They are in a small printed folder stating "Dies made by Mint engraver from actual coin." Limited edition collectors version. They are struck in Nickel silver, copper, and GOLDEN ALLOY. Anyone know what company struck them, contact info, and the composition of "Golden Alloy?"
golden alloy is almost certainly gold plated, I would imagine. I can't imagine a non-bullion collector's strike being made from any measure of real gold.
Thanks but that is not the case. Ever hear of Sac "golden dollars." I'm suspecting something similar with these as the coin is not plated.
I assume "golden" refers only to the color and that the token is struck in brass. I think Royal Oak Mint did Gobrecht dollar replicas, but I don't know if these are the ones you are referring to, as I imagine others reproduced them as well.
Or a yellow brass alloy. If they meant plated they would probably have said plated. By saying "alloy" it is more likely brass.
